Robert Benson I am a Professor of Physics at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and an interdisciplinary scientist with wide-ranging interests. I am the Director of the University's Center for Bioacoustics and curator of the Natural Sounds Collection housed at the Center.
The Center's investigative programs involve the application of physics and technology to the analysis of sounds made by living organisms. Examples are acoustic surveys of the Northwestern Gulf of Mexico intended to document the distribution of marine mammals and studies of the vocal behavior of the endangered Golden-cheeked Warbler. The Center has also conducted studies to determine the feasibility of using passive acoustics as a tool to improve the efficiency of the shrimp industry and to estimate the density of river dolphins in the upper Amazon basin. Dr. Benson is curator of the Natural Sounds Collection at the Center for Bioacoustics.
